Services & Community Involvement: May

Fire extinguisher day is held in May. Residents can bring their fire extinguishers to the fire hall for inspection and refill. Training sessions are conducted on fire extinguishers so those attending can learn how to extinguish a small fire. Extinguishers may also be purchased at the fire hall.

Fire extinguisher training sessions for school children grades 4 – 6 are also held. There is one session of theory and one practical session where the students have hands-on experience in extinguishing small fires.

In May, the G.F.D. also sponsor a traveling fire safety house. Children in grades K-8 go through the program which consists of learning about the importance of having a home escape plan in case of fire.

In 2000 the department was able to raise funds from a BBQ due to the generosity and support of Doug and Sandy Andrews, owners of the Claresholm Garden Market IGA.
